CRAIG

Tuesday, 07 February 2012 08:27

Marie was born into the Selentin family on November 19, 1917 in Elwow, Ukraine.  She came to Canada at the age of 5 as a chosen child of Frank and Nellie Nickel.   They resided in Main Centre and then moved to the Beechy area where she received her education.  On November 11, 1941 she married Louie Jahrstorfer. When they were married they changed their last name to Gardner which was Louie's mother's maiden name. Louie and Marie had one son, Kenneth Louie and one daughter, Marla Carol.  Marla died the same day she was born.  After Louies death in 1950, Marie and Ken moved to Saskatoon where she found employment.  In 1956, Marie and Ken moved to Australia so she could become reacquainted with her biological brothers.  While there she met Leonard Craig, a widower whom she married in 1957.  Len had one son, Desmond.  Len and Marie enjoyed travelling and saw a lot of the world.  They came to Canada numerous times for visits with family and friends.  They were also foster parents to two girls for several years. Len died in his sleep in October of 2000. In April of 2002, Marie came back to Canada making her home in Chinook Village.  She had made a number of friends here and enjoyed their fellowship over the years. Marie was legally blind and could not read her Bible, but her favorite channel on T.V. was the miracle channel where she was nourished spiritually. Marie’s son Ken passed away in January of 2009. She leaves to cherish her memory her son Des, her grandsons, Andrew (Angelica), Neil (Nindi), Richard (Alice) as well as her great granddaughters Zali, Poppy and Halle; Tahlia and Charlotte, all of Australia.  She also leaves her sisters, Sue Schellenberg of Swift Current, Helen Schellenberg of Medicine Hat and her sister-in-law, June Nickel of British Columbia as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral service will be held in the Hillside Christian Fellowship Church on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. C.S.T. with Pastor Steve Driediger officiating. Interment will take place prior to the funeral service, in the Lance Valley Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. C.S.T.
