It is with immense sadness that we
announce the passing of ANTHONIUS (TONY) GIESKE on February 5,
2012 at the age of 93 years, surrounded by his family.
Tony was
predeceased by his wife Elisabeth (Betty) nee: Lamboo, on December
5, 1983, his sisters Adriana and Riet, and brothers Herman and
Edward. He is survived by his children: Tony (Karen) Gieske,
John Gieske, Betty (Don) Fuller, Allan (Shannon) Gieske and Tracey
Gieske. His sisters Johanna (Louie) Sosick, of Lethbridge,
Francisca de Graaf, brothers Piet (Riet) Gieske and Aloysius
(Lenie) Gieske, of the Netherlands. Tony was an extremely proud
Opa to his grandchildren: Trevor, Robyn, Logan, Jenelle, Scott,
and Jillian Gieske; Shaun (Breeanne) Fuller, Ben Fuller and Darren
Fuller. He was also a proud uncle to Jackie Fiorino (son
Peter), Christine Sosick, Jim (Susan) Sosick (children: Sarah,
Angela and August), as well as numerous nieces and nephews in the
Netherlands. Tony was born September 21, 1918 in Oud Ade, The
Netherlands, to Johannes and Anna Gieske, the second of nine
children. Tony met Elisabeth Lamboo several months before he was
due to immigrate to Canada. They were married March 15, 1958 and
together with his sister Johanna, they boarded the ship "The
Grote Bear," which carried them to a new life in Lethbridge,
Alberta. He began his life in Canada working as a labourer on
various beet and dairy farms, eventually spending the rest of his
working career as a drywall finisher. He left his personal
standard of excellence in many homes and businesses in Lethbridge
and area. During the last six years he lived with his extended
families at Columbia Assisted Living for two years and then at
Good Samaritans Park Meadows, Cottage #5 for four years. We will
always be grateful for the loving care he received. A Prayer
Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor
Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at
7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. BASIL'S
CATHOLIC CHURCH, 604-13 Street North, Lethbridge, on Thursday,
February 9, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Tim Boyle
celebrant. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery. In
lieu of flowers please send donations to the Alzheimer Society of
