Neeltje “Nel” Dubbelboer of Bow Island, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at the age of 93 years, beloved wife of the late Arend “Art” Dubbelboer. She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Nanko Dubbelboer of Bow Island, Nel (Jim) Garden of Meredith, New Hampshire and John (Donna) Dubbelboer of Lethbridge; seven grandchildren, Tina (Roger) Holmes, Ian (Pam) Dubbelboer, Christina (Jordan) Share, Bill (Tracy) Garden, Robert Garden, Steven (Karen) Dubbelboer and Mark (Erika) Dubbelboer; eleven great grandchildren; one brother-in-law and one sister-in-law both in Holland. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Art Dubbelboer on February 4, 2010 and her parents, Neeltje and Jochem Blaauboer as well as her sisters. Nel was born in Holland on November 15, 1918. Her mother was a victim of the Influenza epidemic of 1918, passing away when Nel was only 10 days old. She grew up on a dairy farm, and learned a lot about farm management there. She endured the events of the occupation of Holland during the Second World War. She married Arend Dubbelboer on February 25, 1944. The family immigrated to Canada, settling in Alberta intending to farm. Nel was a supportive farmer’s wife, doing everything necessary to keep the farm going and growing. She loved flowers and was able to develop a large flower garden with her husband after retiring from the farm. She was very generous in her support of many charities and her church. She travelled often to Holland and Europe and enjoyed many warm winters with friends in Arizona. In the past few months she slowly faded, always remaining aware of family, staff and surroundings. She passed away peacefully, content that she would be pain free for eternity. The funeral service will be held in the Seventh Day Adventist Church (1933 Dunmore Road SE) on Friday, February 17, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Virgil Covel officiating. Interment will take place in the Bow Island Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Bow Island Health Centre, 938 Centre St. Bow Island, T0K 0G0. Nel was one of the most beautiful woman that I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. I met Nel and Art at a very young at at the church and they adopted me, when I became a young mom they were amazing Nel would call me almost every day to see how I was feeling and when my baby was born early Nel and Art made a special trip to the hat and went to Walmart and bought me very premie outfit they had for little boys Nell sat in the nicu for hrs rocking him back and forth singing Jesus love me and Jesus loves the little children.. She never looked down on me for being young, I still have everything she gave to us.. She truly was an amazing woman... Sleep in peace, until we meet again
