Mrs. Shirley McLay of Medicine Hat, formerly of Edmonton, passed away, surrounded by her family, at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Friday, January 20, 2012, at the age of 77 years.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one sister, Elsie Robbins and family of Medicine Hat; one sister-in-law, Elsie Funk and family of Edmonton; three step-daughters as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom she considered to be her own children. She was predeceased by her parents, Abraham and Martha Funk; her husband, Neil McLay in 1979; her special friend, Ken in 1994; one sister, Frances Bowman and two brothers, Alvin Funk, Gilbert Funk. Shirley worked for Norwest Automotive for 25 years and various other jobs while she lived in Edmonton. She belonged to the Strathcona Legion in Edmonton playing darts where she had won many trophies. Shirley enjoyed motorcycles and she would not miss an episode of Coronation Street. She and Neil were avid C.B.ers and always made many new friends wherever they went. The family would like to thank everyone at Palliative Care for their help during this difficult time. Shirley has been cremated, as was her wish.
