Mrs. Marie Catherine D'Amour, beloved wife of Mr. Pierre D'Amour of Medicine Hat, passed away on Friday, February 17th, 2012 at the age of 72 years.
Marie also leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Claudine (Chris) Gaetz and Lori (Brad) Christian; three grandchildren, Sean Gaetz, Stephanie Gaetz, and Sarah Christian; one brother, William Hecker; three sisters, Joan (Paul) Topolnicki, Doreen (Bob) Smyth, and Diane (Doug) Skow; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Marie was predeceased by her parents, William and Dorothy Hecker. Marie was born in Dublin, Ireland on July 15th, 1939. She completed all of her schooling in and around Dublin before immigrating with her family to Edmonton, Alberta in 1957. She met Pierre, the love of her life, in 1958 and they were married in Edmonton the following year. Marie and Pierre travelled and lived in Whitehorse, Yukon, then moved to Quebec, Nova Scotia, and Metz, France where their much awaited first child, Claudine, was born in 1965. They then moved to Paris, France and Lahr, Germany before being transferred back to Canada in 1968 starting in Calgary where their precious second child, Lori, came into their lives. After Calgary came the tour of Alberta - Edmonton, Wainwright, Suffield, and finally settling in Medicine Hat. Marie enjoyed travelling - often doing the loop as she called it, Banff to Jasper and back home again when family and friends from overseas and Quebec came to visit. One memorable night was spent in a tepee in Canmore with friends from England. Marie enjoyed cruising the sea with Pierre going to St. Thomas, St. Marteen, and the Princess Private Islands. Her next pride and joy after her own children were her three grandchildren Sean, Stephanie and Sarah. She always enjoyed going to their sporting events and playing games with them. In the last few years, this was one of the many things that Marie missed while struggling with her health.
