ALICE MARY THOMSON, wife of the late James Arnott Thomson, passed away in Lethbridge on Friday, November 9, 2012 at the age 88 years Mary is survived by three sons and one daughter: Arnott (Gail) Thomson of Calgary, Mary Jean (Brent) Russell of Calgary, Robert Bryce Thomson of Salmon Arm, BC and Alexander Robert Thomson (Jackie French) of Lethbridge; three grandchildren; Kelsey Jean Russell, James Todd Russell and Jeffery Brent Russell and one step- grandchild, Christopher Collins. Mary has two surviving sisters; Betty Luco of Lethbridge and Roberta Chevers of Queenstown, on and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Edith and Robert Needs and several aunts and uncles. Mary was born and attended several schools in Lethbridge. She worked at Commercial Printers, Kitsons Pharmacy, Lethbridge Monumental Works and Lethbridge School District #51. Mary loved singing from an early age, under the direction of Janet McIlvena with the “never defeated Glee Singers” and Southminster Junior and Senior Girl’s Choirs under Mrs. Percy Cull’s leadership. She advanced to the Southminster Sr. Choir, where she was the last remaining original member. Mary won the coveted Stutchbury Cup twice, but Barbershop with the Calgary Chorus and the Chinookaires Quartet was the best. She swam with the Tarquins Swim Club of Lethbridge and also won many awards. She loved camping on the weekends with her husband, Jim, during his lifetime. Mary was a volunteer at the “Soup Kitchen”, the Kiwanis Festival, and various church activities. She was a member and soloist of the Central United Church Chancel Choir in Calgary from 1955-1968. Mary was a church member and soloist in Southminster United Church Chancel Choir and belonged to the Chinook Group. She was also a Life Member of Southminster U.C.W. and a Life Member of Maple Leaf Chapter #7, O.E.S.
