 Irene Adelaide Peecock passed away Dec. 19, 2012 at Cypress Lodge with her sister by her side. Born Oct. 26, 1922 she was the fifth in a family of eight children born to Melvin and Inez Furgeson. Irene is survived by her daughter Patsy, grandson Francis, sister Marie, brother Earle and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband F.O. (Pat) Peecock, her parents Melvin and Inez Furgeson, sister Louisa Mutrie, brothers Hilbert, Lester, Raymond and Stanely, niece Elaine (Mike) Kreutzer and nephew Dennis Furgeson and all her brothers and sisters-in-law. After completing grade 10 at Moorhead School, Irene left home at age 17 to work as a housekeeper for various ranches. With the war on, Irene went to Ajax, Ontario in 1942 to work in the ammunition factory making anti-aircraft shells. In 1943 Irene enlisted in the Canadian Women's Army Corp. Discharged from the CWAC in July 1946, she returned to Maple Creek. She married the love of her life, F.O. (Pat) Peecock, Sept. 26, 1946. Her first home was in Swift Current where Pat was employed at the horse packing plant. Moving back to Maple Creek area in 1949, Irene was housekeeper at the Illif Wallace and later Gilchrist ranches where Pat worked. From 1951 to 1978 Govenlock PFRA Community Pasture was home. Retiring in 1978 Pat and Irene moved into Maple Creek. After Pat's passing in 1985, with the help of Jack Moorhead and later Rex Furgeson, Irene was able to keep the Jack and Pearl Peecock ranch which they had bought. She was always interested in cattle prices, grass and water conditions, etc. Through shear determination, as her physical health failed, Irene stayed in her Maple Creek home until one morning her left side totally quit. Moving into Cypress Lodge Oct 2, 2009, she enjoyed the care and activities until her passing. She never complained. Many times she would say "beggars can't be choosers" and then smile. Everyone was always welcome in her home. Many enjoyed her excellent baking and no one left without coffee and a goodie or a full meal. Irene loved gardening and grew a lot of vegetables and beautiful flowers. When not cooking or gardening, her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, embroidery, sewing and playing cards. The funeral service was held Dec. 22, 2012 with Rev. Eva Stanley officiating. Interment in Maple Creek. Special music was provided by Margie Perrin and Mary Kreutzer. Active pallbearers were her Furgeson nephews Eric, Jim, Rex, Ian, Doug and Darby. Honorary pallbearers were all those who shared in Irene's life. Friends who wish to may remember Irene with a gift to Cypress Lodge activities or the new Maple Creek Hospital Fund. I'm Free: Don't grieve for me, from pain I'm free. I'm following the path God has laid for, you see. I took His hand when I heard His call. I turned and left it all. I could not stay another day, to laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found the peace on a sunny day, if my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joys. A family shared, a laugh, a kiss, oh yes these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow. I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I've savoured much, good family, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief. Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and peace to thee. God wanted me now; from pain I'm free.
