GRETE SEGRID DALZELL

September 4, 1929 ~ January 29, 2013 Grete Segrid “Gram” “Siggy” Dalzell, a product of the Greatest Generation and proud Viking, shook loose her shackles, January 29, 2013 in Medicine Hat. She is with her sons, Robert-Dion and Billy, as well as the love of her life, Maurice “Red” Dalzell, along with relatives and friends once again.  Segrid was born to Grete and Peder, September 4, 1929 in Hafford, SK., as well as being lovingly raised by “Storri”, in a family of siblings including Sonja, Charlotte, Sever and Jake.  Segrid adored her entire family, leaving behind a legacy unmatched by her loving daughters, Sonja, Maureen and sons, Jim, John and Ed;  grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well as numerous relatives and friends.  It is hoped that all who knew her amazing presence is required elsewhere now.  Mom defined pure love, being fanatical of animals from her lovebird always on her shoulder to “Baby” her wildcat.  There was no greater love than that between her animal friends and herself.  Mom had shocking blue eyes displaying an intensity never to be equalled.  These eyes smiled at weddings, cried at funerals, but somehow always shined in the face of happiness or heartbreak, never did her beauty wane.  Seeing those eyes was enough to draw a smile, even in the worst of circumstance.  Segrid was always there with a coffee or beer when the people around her needed her.  Segrid was a staunch humanist and technocrat.  Life was your own and not decided for you, this mindset never changed.  Thanks to the caregivers at Haven View and to her dear friend, Beryl. Beauty, fire and intelligence defined, the Diamond of the Dalzell’s has her peace.  Segrid’s life will be silently remembered by all those who were touched by her presence.  (Condolences may be expressed by visiting www.cooksouthland.com)  If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Segrid’s honor, may be made directly to needy animals in your area.  Honoured to serve the family is Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, Alberta  T1A 4V4  Phone 403-527-6455.
