Ida Mathilda (Klug) Franz of Medicine Hat passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013, at the age of 92 years, beloved wife of the late Fred Franz.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Phyllis Schorr, Morley Franz, Alex (Jane) Franz, Josephine (Larry) Good, Delores (Zdenek) Los, Bonita Franz-Seman and Bev (Fred) Vidiuk; thirty five grandchildren; a multitude of great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren and her sister, Lena Eversfield as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Maria and Andrew Klug; her husband Fred on October 20, 1979; two brothers, and three sisters. Ida was born on July 19, 1920 in the Many Island District where she was raised and educated. She was confirmed in St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church. Ida worked as a house keeper in Medicine Hat until her marriage to Fred Franz on February 23, 1940. Together they moved to the Lennard Lien farm for three years and then to the Lovely farm which they bought, living there until 1960. Ida and Fred moved to Irvine where she worked as a cleaning person for Irvine School. She later took up baby sitting and housekeeping for two of the teachers; the Kryzanowskis and the Sherwards. Ida then worked at the Texaco as a cook and waitress for six years. In 1974, Fred and Ida bought the garage which later became Pacific 66. She continued to work as a cook and waitress and many times ran to whole place by herself. The garage sold in 1978. Ida took up gardening and potting plants which she sold to many Irvine residents. She was a member of the Irvine Womens Institute until the group parted. Ida moved to Medicine Hat in 1984. She was active in curling, bowling, cribbage, Bingo and travelling. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Friday, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. - 12:55 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. James Hillson officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Margery E.
