Bernice passed away on Feb. 14th, 2013 at the age of 84. Bernice leaves behind a plethora of offspring, who will benefit greatly if they remember to apply her lifelong philosophy of acceptance and nourishing, embracing life, never choosing sides, never judging.
She took whatever came her way and absorbed it. Bernice was born on October 19th, 1928 in Sunnyslope, Alberta to Helen and Bill Brown. She was raised there along with Menno and Dorothy who predeceased her and younger brother Jim Brown (Barrie, Ontario). Bernice met her first husband Garnet (Pete) Peterson in Calgary. Her primary goal was always to be a Mother and she succeeded admirably, bringing seven kids into the world over a period of eighteen years. A lifelong nurturer of the unfortunate, Bernice harboured nieces and nephews, foster children, and others experiencing an ill wind. While magnanimously encouraging and supporting Garnet's passion for the underdog, they moved often, living in Calgary, Singapore, Leduc, Edmonton and finally Medicine Hat in 1973. Bernice sustained a bitter blow when Garnet and youngest daughter Beth passed within weeks of one another in 1990/91. However she picked herself up, dusted herself off and courageously continued her winter treks to Wellton, Arizona. Wouldn't you know it, the sparks flew again on the golf course. Enter husband Bill Amdor, now residing in a nursing home in California, who says that Bernice gave him the best years of his life. She enjoyed camping, golf, sewing, knitting, bingo, casinos, crosswords, gardening and cooking. In lieu of flowers, give someone a hand, minimize a conflict, smile benignly or let loose a belly laugh. Garnet's final words to Bernice were "I'll meet you on the other side". And now the joyous event has occurred. Memorial service will be held at a later date.
