June 6, 1973 ~ July 19, 2008

With saddened hearts, the family of Lacy Martin announce her passing at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at the age of 35 years, after a long and couragous battle with Breast Cancer. Lacy was born to Doreen and Gary Martin on June 6, 1973 in Swift Current, SK.; moving to Lethbridge in 1979, then to Medicine Hat in 1987. She graduated from CHHS in 1991, attending the U of L in 1992, and Medicine Hat College in 2000, before graduating with honors and receiving her accredidation in Addictions Counselling. Lacy’s love for the elderly took her to Sunnyside Nursing Home for two years and the Brooks Women's Shelter for two years. Since that time, she has worked in group home settings and was currently employed with Redi Enterprises. Lacy was a very avid reader and owned many books, all of which were read several times over. Lacy loved belly-dancing and enjoyed many hours of friendship over the past four years. She also enjoyed being involved with the Northern Lights Drum Circles. Lacy fought a courageous battle against Breast Cancer for the past four years. She was our warrior, strong to the very end. We will miss you very much and we love you dearly. Along with her loving kitty Freya, Lacy’s memory will be treasured in the hearts of her surviving family; mother, Doreen Martin (Fred Aschenbrenner) and her father Gary Martin; sisters, Candis (Harvey) Wright and their daughter Raven of Seattle, Washington, Jennifer Martin of Medicine Hat, Amber Martin (Marc Tarapaski) of Edmonton; step-brothers, Jeff and Mark Aschenbrenner; grandmother, Martha Weinbender of Swift Current, SK.; uncles, George (Gail) Weinbender, Les (Phyllis) Weinbender, Ron (Karen) Weinbender of Swift Current, SK., Terry Weinbender of Vancouver, B.C.; aunts, Dianna Dwelle (Marvin Sykes) of Texas, USA., Melanie Weinbender (John Wentworth) of Swift Current, SK., Bonnie Martin of Pincher Creek, AB., and cousins, Kevin, Curtis, Jackie, Shannon, Kim, Scott, Crystal and Scott. She is also survived by her best friends, Shonna Beattie, Natallie McKliney, Kelly Mast, Daniel Rand and Lindsay Eldridge. Lacy was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, George and Jessie Martin in 1992, and her maternal grand father, Jack Weinbender in 2007. I worked with Lacy at Sunnyside Nursing Home. I really enjoyed working with her and was really saddened to her of her passing.

I am fondly remembering Lacy. We worked together @ the Saan Store in the old Southview mall. We had the same silly sense of humor and she always helped to make work soo much fun. Thinking and remember our times together always. You will be missed!
